[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases under the U.S. National Institutes of Health, on the 10th (local time) said "definitely not" in response to President Donald Trump's statement that "99% of COVID-19 patients are harmless."

Fauci made this remark during a media interview when asked whether the president's statement was true.

Fauci said, "My guess is that someone told the president that the general fatality rate is about 1%, and the president then said that means 99% are not a problem," adding, "That is definitely not the case."

Fauci also said that the last time he saw President Trump was at the White House on the 2nd of last month, and that he has not personally briefed him for at least two months.

Earlier, President Trump had sparked controversy by saying, "As testing has increased, many cases have been found, but 99% are completely harmless."

Fauci also said that COVID-19 transmission through aerosols (tiny particles mixed in the air) seems to be somewhat possible.

The World Health Organization (WHO) also stated on the 7th that it cannot rule out the possibility of airborne transmission in closed and poorly ventilated environments and that there is evidence supporting this.
