Police: "No Suspicion of Homicide in Mayor Park Won-soon's Death... Autopsy Not to Be Conducted" (Update)

[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] The police have launched a full-scale investigation to clarify the exact circumstances of the death of Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon, who was found dead on Bukaksan Mountain in Seoul after losing contact on the 9th.

According to the police on the 10th, the Seongbuk Police Station in Seoul began investigative procedures from the morning to verify various facts related to Mayor Park's death.

The police currently hold the position that there is no suspicion of homicide, but it is known that they plan to check phone call records and movements before death to clarify the circumstances of the death.

However, considering the scene conditions confirmed through on-site inspection, autopsy results, statements from bereaved family members and city hall officials, and the contents of Mayor Park's will, the police have judged that there is no suspicion of homicide and plan to hand over the body to the family without an autopsy.

The case in which Mayor Park was accused by his former secretary of sexual harassment will be suspended due to the death of the accused, Mayor Park, and is expected to be sent to the prosecution with a 'no prosecution' opinion.

A police official stated, "When the accused dies, the case is sent with a no prosecution opinion according to the procedure, and it will be handled through the usual process," adding, "It is difficult to predict the exact timing of the transfer."

Mayor Park disappeared after leaving the official residence at around 10:44 a.m. the previous day. Following a report to 112 by his daughter, the police and fire authorities conducted a seven-hour search operation and found his body near Sukjeongmun Gate on Bukaksan Mountain at 12:01 a.m. that day.

At the time of discovery, Mayor Park's body was reportedly in a state presumed to be the result of an extreme choice.
