[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suwan] Former announcer Lee Ji-ae expressed anger over the refusal to extradite minor 'Welcome to Video' operator Son Jung-woo to the United States and encouraged petitions against digital sex crimes.
On the 9th, Lee Ji-ae posted on her Instagram, "I received a message from a mother. Everyone, what do you think about this issue?" along with a direct message (DM) from a netizen.
In the revealed message, the netizen identified herself as an ordinary mother raising a girl. She said, "As a mother, I cannot just overlook the recent ruling on Son Jung-woo in the dark web case," and expressed frustration, "Son Jung-woo, who operated the dark web, was sentenced to only 18 months."
She continued, "I am not part of any social organization or protest group, but I want to inform you because I hope the world my daughter and her friends live in will be safer than it is now."
In response, Lee Ji-ae said, "A country lenient on digital sex crimes. Are we okay with this?" and urged people to join the Blue House national petition regarding the extradition of dark web operator Son Jung-woo to the United States.
Meanwhile, Son Jung-woo, operator of the world's largest child sexual exploitation material sharing site 'Welcome to Video,' is accused of operating the site on the dark web from July 2015 to March 2018, receiving cryptocurrency worth hundreds of millions of won, and providing child pornography.
In October last year, the U.S. Department of Justice requested Son Jung-woo's extradition, but our court refused the extradition to the U.S. on the 6th of this month.
