[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The United Future Party has decided to postpone the condolence schedule, which was initially planned to take place as early as today, due to concerns over the late Park Won-soon's sexual harassment allegations and the risk of secondary harm.
A United Future Party official stated on the 10th, "The leadership, including Emergency Committee Chairman Kim Jong-in and Floor Leader Joo Ho-young, was scheduled to pay condolences as early as today, but we have decided to observe the weekend situation."
Previously, the United Future Party announced, "We pray for the repose of the late Mayor Park and offer our deepest condolences to the bereaved family. Chairman Kim is expected to pay condolences either today or tomorrow."
However, since the sexual harassment allegations against the late Mayor Park remain, and there are concerns that the condolence itself could cause secondary harm to the sexual harassment victims, the party has decided to postpone for the time being.
Meanwhile, the number of people agreeing to the petition that the late Mayor Park's funeral should not be held as a Seoul Special Mayor's Funeral (葬) surpassed 220,000 in just one day. The petitioner pointed out, "Should the public watch the extravagant five-day funeral of a prominent politician who committed suicide due to sexual harassment allegations through the media? What message are they trying to convey to the public?"
