[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Former U.S. Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden has stated that he would reconsider President Donald Trump's decision to reduce U.S. troops stationed in Germany if elected, according to major foreign media reports on the 9th (local time).
Anthony Blinken, Biden's chief foreign policy advisor, said in an interview the day before, "We will review all decisions made by President Trump, including the reduction of U.S. troops in Germany." He particularly pointed out that President Trump decided to reduce troops in Germany without consulting Germany, emphasizing that "(If the reduction proceeds) the United States will also face serious problems."
Earlier, President Trump approved a plan last month to reduce U.S. troops in Germany from 34,500 to 25,000, a cut of 9,500 troops.
This decision drew criticism not only from the Democratic Party but also from within the Republican Party, warning it could worsen relations with Germany.
On the 6th, when the Trump administration officially announced its withdrawal from the World Health Organization (WHO), former Vice President Biden also expressed opposition, stating, "On my first day as president, I will rejoin the WHO and restore our leadership on the world stage."
