[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] ○…The first round of the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour IS Dongseo Busan Open (total prize money 1 billion KRW) was canceled due to severe weather.
The first round of the tournament, scheduled to be held at Stonegate Golf Course in Gijang-gun, Busan on the 10th, started with the first group teeing off at 7 a.m., but was suspended at 8:16 a.m. due to heavy rain. The restart time was repeatedly postponed to 10 a.m. and then noon, but was ultimately canceled after 1 p.m. due to the risk of lightning. KLPGA Competition Director Choi Jin-ha stated, "No group completed more than 9 holes today, and considering the weather forecast, we judged that starting the first round anew tomorrow is the best option."
Subsequently, the tournament organizing committee announced, "We have decided to use Monday (the 13th), secured as a reserve day, to conduct this tournament as a 3-round, 54-hole event." There have been cases in the KLPGA regular tour where tournaments ended on Monday beyond the scheduled date, such as the ADT Caps Championship in November 2005 and the Daishin Securities-Tomato Tour Korea Women's Masters in November 2009. After this tournament, the KLPGA Tour will take a one-week break and then hold the Jeju Samdasoo Masters starting on the 30th.
