[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hong Jaehee] A blueprint has been proposed to establish the Jeonju City Museum of Art as an artistic space where citizens can engage in forward-looking conversations and as a cultural tourism hub that can connect with people worldwide.

On the 10th, independent curator Kim Jeong-yeon made this claim at the "Public Forum for the Establishment of Jeonju City Museum of Art," held in the seminar room of Jeonju Pungnam Tourist Hotel, attended by art experts, stakeholders, and local artists.

The city plans to build the Jeonju City Museum of Art by 2024 with a budget of approximately 50 billion KRW, including facilities such as an art museum, children's art museum, library, mini exhibition hall, storage, and convenience facilities.

At the forum chaired by Professor Choi Byung-gil of Wonkwang University, independent curator Kim Jeong-yeon and Baek Ki-young, Deputy Director of the Seoul Museum of Art Buk-Seoul, presented on the topics of "Basic Concept Plan for Jeonju City Museum of Art (Draft)" and "Identity and Specialization Strategies for Jeonju City Museum of Art," respectively.

Additionally, designated discussions followed with Jeong Jong-hyo, Curator of Busan Museum of Art; Professor Kim Se-jun of Sookmyung Women's University; Hwang Soon-woo, Director of Palbok Art Factory; Professor Park Young-taek of Kyonggi University; and Kim Seon-tae, Director of the Korean Traditional Culture Center.

First, independent curator Kim Jeong-yeon, who presented the initial topic, proposed the basic direction of the Jeonju City Museum of Art as an urban art forest shared with citizens, a cultural tourism hub connecting with the world, and a museum that engages in forward-looking dialogue.

Curator Kim explained, "It should be designed as a flexible space where various activities such as exhibitions, films, performances, and picnics can take place, and furthermore, it should be designed to serve as a landmark of the region."

Following this, Deputy Director Baek Ki-young of Seoul Museum of Art Buk-Seoul continued with a presentation on ways to enhance the identity and specialization of the Jeonju City Museum of Art.

Deputy Director Baek stated, "The Jeonju City Museum of Art should be developed as a cultural space integrated into daily life, an art museum as a knowledge production platform, an inclusive participatory art museum open to all, and a transhistorical art museum."

Professor Park Young-taek of Kyonggi University, who participated in the designated discussion, also suggested, "If the museum is to be established in Jeonju, specific goals considering Jeonju’s unique traditions and the current state of its art culture must be set," adding, "The solidity and high quality of the exhibition content will be crucial."

Following this forum, the city plans to hold a public hearing on the 24th with local artists and citizens to gather diverse opinions on the Jeonju City Museum of Art and finalize the basic concept plan.

Choi Rak-gi, Director of the Culture, Tourism, and Sports Bureau, said, "We will actively review the discussions from the forum and the opinions of citizens gathered through the public hearing to create a city museum plan that embodies Jeonju’s unique identity," adding, "Through the establishment of the Jeonju City Museum of Art, we will enhance Jeonju’s status as a cultural city."
