[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Chosun University Central Library was recently selected as the first distribution institution in the Honam region (Gwangju, Jeonnam, Jeonbuk) for the National Knowledge Information Construction Project of the National Library of Korea, the ‘2020 OAK Repository’.
According to Chosun University on the 10th, the OAK (Open Access Korea) Repository is a project distributed by the National Library of Korea since 2014 through a public contest targeting universities, research institutes, and others.
It is a ‘Korean-style Open Access Archive’ that registers and manages research outcomes produced by affiliated researchers of each institution so that materials can be accessed worldwide.
Following the selection for this project, Chosun University Central Library signed a written agreement with the National Library of Korea on the 30th of last month.
Through this project, Chosun University Central Library OAK will collect, preserve, and accumulate on-campus research outcomes to build an international standard information-sharing infrastructure that allows anyone worldwide to freely research and utilize them. The service will be provided starting in 2021.
Materials registered in the repository are linked with the National Library of Korea’s OAK Repository. They can be searched via external academic search engines and various portals (such as Google Scholar, ResearchGate), and full-text downloads of desired materials are available.
It is possible to search by various conditions such as material type, publication date, and author, and features like collection subscription, sharing on SNS, and metadata download are also available.
In particular, Chosun University Central Library OAK is expected to gain momentum in the construction project of the Chosun University Central Library ‘AI & Big Data Information Center,’ which links Gwangju City’s AI-centered city project and university specialization by intensively operating and providing research outcomes related to artificial intelligence, big data, and related advanced technologies.
Choi Hancheol, Director of the Central Library, said, “Through the selection for the National Knowledge Information Construction Project (OAK) by the National Library of Korea, we expect the Chosun University OAK Repository to play a key role in informing and sharing information about the university’s excellent research outcomes, including AI & Big Data, domestically and internationally, thereby contributing to the nation and local community.”
