Number of Dispatch and Rescue Cases Increased by Nearly 30% Compared to the Previous Year
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] The Daegu Fire Safety Headquarters (Chief Lee Jiman) announced on the 10th that it responded to 13,518 rescue dispatches in the first half of this year, handled 10,083 cases, and rescued 2,205 people.
This amounts to an average of 73 rescue dispatches, 55 handled cases, and 11 people rescued per day. Compared to the previous year, the number of dispatches (↑29.3%) and handled cases (↑29.7%) increased, while rescues of people (↓6.2%) decreased.
The Daegu Fire Headquarters analyzed that the increase in dispatches and handled cases was due to the "highest priority response principle," which involves a full-scale response system that concentrates superior firefighting forces in the early stages of various disasters, as well as an increase in animal capture reports due to growing interest in animals.
On the other hand, the number of people rescued decreased by 6.2%, from 2,158 to 2,025. This is mainly attributed to a decrease in active population due to social distancing practices amid the COVID-19 pandemic and reluctance to visit hospitals due to infection concerns.
Kim Youngseok, Head of Field Response at Daegu Fire Safety Headquarters, stated, "Daegu Fire Department is doing its best to protect citizens' lives and property by deploying overwhelming firefighting forces early in disaster situations," and added, "We will strive for a safer Daegu by identifying accident-prone areas using big data and improving risk factors."
