Former Seoul Deputy Mayor for Political Affairs Moon Mi-ran Appeals to the Media on Behalf of the Bereaved Family
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] The family of Mayor Park Won-soon has appealed to refrain from defaming the deceased.
Moon Mi-ran, former Deputy Mayor for Political Affairs of Seoul, said in the "Appeal from the family representative of Mayor Park Won-soon" sent to reporters on the 10th, "The sudden sad news has deeply shocked the family, Seoul city employees, and citizens," adding, "Now is the time to hold the funeral and bring closure."
She continued, "I earnestly ask everyone," and appealed, "Please refrain from spreading one-sided claims or unfounded information about the deceased."
Former Deputy Mayor Moon also added, "If acts that defame the deceased unrelated to facts continue, we will respond strictly through legal measures."
About two hours earlier, Lee Min-joo, Seoul Mayor's Public Relations Special Advisor, also sent a text message to reporters, stating, "I earnestly ask you to refrain from speculative reports that cause irreparable wounds to the deceased and the bereaved family."
The special advisor said, "The deceased devoted his life selflessly to public service, but after entering the path of politician and administrator, he continuously suffered from oppression and slander," adding, "We ask for your cooperation so as not to cause further pain to the bereaved family who are plunged into shock and sorrow as if the sky is falling."
Meanwhile, Koh Han-seok, Chief Secretary to the Seoul Mayor, revealed Mayor Park's will to the press in front of the funeral hall at Seoul National University Hospital in Yeongeon-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, where the mayor's condolence room was set up. The will was found on the desk in the study of the official residence the previous day.
Mayor Park left the words, "I am sorry to everyone. I thank all who have been with me in my life. I am always sorry to my family to whom I could only bring pain. Please cremate me and scatter my ashes at my parents' grave. Goodbye all."
