17 Private and Public Officials Including SK Energy Attend
"Discussion on Accident Prevention Measures and Safety Management System Improvements"
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Korea Gas Safety Corporation announced on the 10th that it held the 41st Petrochemical Plant Safety Technology Improvement Research Association Subcommittee meeting via a non-face-to-face video conference.
The corporation held the meeting to discuss preventive measures for consecutive safety accidents, including the explosion accident at Lotte Chemical Daesan Plant that occurred in March, and to share difficulties in on-site safety management. It aims to secure continuous safety communication channels with the industry.
The non-face-to-face video conference was attended by 17 safety experts from refining and petrochemical plants and corporation officials, including Chairman Park Wonjun (Head of Petrochemical Diagnosis Department at the corporation) and Choi Yoon-guk (Head of Safety Management Team at SK Energy).
During the meeting, proposals related to the rational improvement and development plans of petrochemical safety management systems, the latest safety technologies, and cases of on-site implementation were shared.
Discussions included the expansion of the precision safety inspection system for aging and high-risk facilities, temporary inspection promotion plans for overseas manufacturing equipment due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), and necessary system improvements related to the introduction of the latest safety technologies associated with the 4th Industrial Revolution.
It was agreed that the corporation and the industry will cooperate to establish reasonable safety management measures in the future.
A corporation official stated, "The corporation will continue to contribute to the improvement of petrochemical safety management systems and the prevention of major accidents through active exchange of opinions and information among internal and external committee members."
