Busan Hit by 50mm Per Hour 'Water Bomb'... Retaining Wall Also Collapsed On the 10th, a retaining wall behind the Military Manpower Administration in Suyeong-gu, Busan, collapsed due to a downpour exceeding 50mm per hour.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] On the morning of the 10th, when a heavy rain warning was issued, more than 50mm of torrential rain poured down per hour in the Busan area, flooding various parts of the city and causing numerous flood damages. Throughout the morning, it was less like heavy rain and more like a water bomb or a downpour.

According to the Busan police, around 11:55 a.m., the retaining wall along a one-way street behind the Military Manpower Administration in Suyeong-gu collapsed due to the heavy rain, causing soil to overflow and leading to road closures. Suyeong-gu is currently conducting emergency restoration work. In the Haeundae-gu area, roads and school playgrounds have also been repeatedly flooded.

Due to the water bomb experienced in the morning, there are concerns about the overflow of small rivers in the afternoon. The water levels of Daeyeoncheon in Daeyeon-dong, Nam-gu, and Dongcheon in Munhyeon-dong are rising rapidly. Nam-gu, Busan sent an emergency safety text message at 12:45 p.m. alerting residents to the rising river levels.

Earlier, around 7:24 a.m., the road in the subway construction section near Sasang Hyundai Motor Service in Hakjang-dong, Sasang-gu, Busan, was completely flooded.

Police received a 112 report that the road was almost flooded due to heavy rain, and patrol units and traffic police were dispatched to control the scene.

At around 8:20 a.m., a 100-meter two-way section near Saebyeok Rotary on Saebyeok-ro in Sasang-gu was flooded, resulting in traffic control.

Also, at around 8:25 a.m., the water level of Oncheoncheon in Dongnae-gu, Busan, rose, leading to the closure of areas around Sebyeonggyo, Yeonangyo, and Suyeonggyo bridges.

The sections where the police have imposed traffic control continue to increase along with the relentless heavy rain.

Busan Hit by 50mm Per Hour 'Water Bomb'... Retaining Wall Also Collapsed Heavy rain caused flooding on roads and school playgrounds in the Haeundae area of Busan.

In the Haeundae area, two roads were completely closed: the road from Olympic Intersection toward the 2nd BEXCO and the road in front of Haegang Middle School.

In Busanjin-gu, two lanes in front of Samjeong Tower were blocked.

At around 9:03 a.m., a vehicle was trapped in water on the road in front of the 2nd BEXCO Transfer Center, causing flood damage.

To reduce citizen inconvenience caused by the rising rainwater, the police deployed 150 personnel, including traffic and mobile units, to major intersections with heavy vehicle congestion for special management.

A police official said, “We are mobilizing all available forces to conduct intensive patrol activities in flood-prone areas in the Busan region.”
