Neurodegenerative Disease Blood-Based Diagnostic Company PeopleBio Receives Preliminary Listing Review Approval

World's First Commercialization of Blood-Based Alzheimer's Disease Risk Test Product
Expanding Testing Technology to Various Diseases to Target Global Market

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] PeopleBio, a blood-based neurodegenerative disease diagnostic company, is entering the KOSDAQ market.

PeopleBio announced on the 10th that it has received approval for the preliminary review request for a special technical listing. Having passed the technical evaluation in December last year, PeopleBio is one of the world’s leading companies in the field of blood diagnostics for Alzheimer's disease.

PeopleBio has been accumulating know-how in diagnostic methods related to neurodegenerative diseases since the early 2000s by developing blood diagnostic kits for bovine spongiform encephalopathy. PeopleBio’s proprietary blood-based diagnostic technology, the Multimer Detection System (MDS), is a core source technology that detects protein misfolding diseases (PMD) caused by protein aggregation and oligomerization. Degenerative brain diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's are representative types of PMD.

The world's first commercialized blood-based Alzheimer's disease risk test kit has been published in SCI-level journals.

The Alzheimer's-related market was valued at $7.93 billion as of 2018. Early diagnosis is necessary to prevent the disease and to provide medical treatment to delay onset if the risk is high. This is why PeopleBio anticipates high demand for early diagnostic kits.

Kang Sungmin, CEO of PeopleBio, said, “Using PeopleBio’s MDS technology, we will realize early screening not only for Alzheimer's disease, a global health issue, but also for PMD disease groups such as Parkinson's and diabetes. We will target various diseases and markets through this listing.”

PeopleBio’s listing sponsor is Kiwoom Securities, and the company is preparing for a listing within this year.
