According to the COVID-19 tally by Johns Hopkins University in the U.S. on the 9th (local time), a total of 66,551 new cases were reported in the past 24 hours. This is the largest number of daily confirmed cases ever recorded. As of that day, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the U.S. reached 3,112,540, with 133,198 deaths reported.
On the same day, Dr. Fauci appeared on The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) podcast and stated, "States with serious problems should consider reimposing lockdown measures," adding, "Even simple measures such as limiting gatherings, wearing masks, and practicing social distancing can help, even if it is not a full economic shutdown."
