[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunwoo Lee] The United States has set a new record for the highest number of daily new COVID-19 cases, surpassing 65,000. Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases under the U.S. National Institutes of Health, recommended that states experiencing severe COVID-19 outbreaks consider reimposing lockdown measures.

According to the COVID-19 tally by Johns Hopkins University in the U.S. on the 9th (local time), a total of 66,551 new cases were reported in the past 24 hours. This is the largest number of daily confirmed cases ever recorded. As of that day, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the U.S. reached 3,112,540, with 133,198 deaths reported.

On the same day, Dr. Fauci appeared on The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) podcast and stated, "States with serious problems should consider reimposing lockdown measures," adding, "Even simple measures such as limiting gatherings, wearing masks, and practicing social distancing can help, even if it is not a full economic shutdown." Dr. Fauci pointed out, "Some states reopened their economies too quickly, and as restrictions were eased, citizens did not follow the social distancing guidelines set by health authorities."
