Pulmuone Launches 'Perfec' for Personalized Health Functional Food Packaging and Sales


[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] Pulmuone Health & Living is launching the first personalized health functional food portioning and sales service in Korea.


On the 10th, Pulmuone Health & Living announced that it held the opening ceremony of Korea's first personalized health functional food store, "Perfack," at the Orga Whole Foods Bangi branch in Songpa-gu, Seoul. This event marked the launch of the personalized health functional food brand "Perfack."


The opening ceremony was attended by about 30 people, including Lee Ui-kyung, Commissioner of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, Lee Hyo-yul, Pulmuone CEO, Hwang Jin-seon, CEO of Pulmuone Health & Living, Kang Byung-gyu, CEO of Orga Whole Foods, as well as officials from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and Pulmuone executives and employees. The Perfack store is located as a shop-in-shop within the Orga Whole Foods Bangi branch.


"Personalized health functional food recommendation and sales" refers to a service that reviews an individual's health status, lifestyle habits, and genetic test results requested by the consumer to recommend health functional foods considering the nutrients that need supplementation, and sells them in portioned amounts.


In April, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced that it would pilot this business for two years to protect consumers from excessive intake and misuse of health functional foods.


Perfack is an abbreviation of "Personal One Pack," meaning it provides optimized health functional foods for individuals in one pack per day.


Professional nutritionists affiliated with Pulmuone Health & Living conduct surveys and hold in-depth consultations with customers by referring to their health status, lifestyle habits, body composition analysis, and genetic tests to recommend appropriate health functional foods. Therefore, consumers can consult with nutritionists and purchase the exact amount of health functional foods they need. For example, if lutein, probiotics, and vitamin D are recommended, instead of purchasing several bottles packaged for 2-3 months and taking them inconveniently, the necessary health functional foods are combined into one pack per the nutritionist's advice, and consumers only need to take one pack per day. Purchases can be made in one-month quantities.


To develop Perfack, Pulmuone Health & Living deployed key personnel from Pulmuone Technology Institute and strengthened expertise through verification procedures by external pharmacists. They also paid special attention to preventing misuse of health functional foods and improving consumer convenience.


A "dream team" consisting of 15 nutritionists with master's and doctoral degrees developed 17 types of health functional foods together with invited pharmacists. Additionally, they developed the "Perfack Algorithm," which can recommend about 20,000 products through personalized solutions.


Pulmuone Health & Living plans to lead the healthy "self-medication" trend with Perfack and expand into a total brand providing personalized healthcare solutions. At the first Perfack store, the personalized diet recommendation brand "EatSlim" and Orga Whole Foods' health functional food specialty brand "Pulvita" were also opened side by side.


CEO Lee Hyo-yul said, "Thanks to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety supporting the regulatory reform pilot project, which allowed us to proceed with what was difficult due to legal regulations, we were able to open the first personalized health functional food consultation store. Based on 38 years of know-how in health functional foods since starting to sell brown rice enzymes in 1982, we will provide healthcare solutions that include sustainable value for the healthy lives of our customers."
