Discovery of Koo Kyo-hwan in Bando

Discovery of Koo Kyo-hwan in Bando

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Iseul] It is the discovery of actor Koo Kyo-hwan.

On the afternoon of the 9th, a press screening of the movie Peninsula was held at CGV Yongsan in Ichon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul. Actors Kang Dong-won, Lee Jung-hyun, Kwon Hae-hyo, Kim Min-jae, Koo Kyo-hwan, Kim Do-yoon, Lee Re, Lee Ye-won, and director Yeon Sang-ho attended the event.

Peninsula is an action blockbuster film depicting the final battle of those left on the ruined land four years after Train to Busan. Director Yeon Sang-ho has built his own universe that spans platforms such as animation, movies, dramas, and webtoons, connecting Seoul Station, Train to Busan, and now Peninsula.

The "star of the independent film scene," Koo Kyo-hwan, plays Captain Seo, the commander leading the 631st unit. Captain Seo is a character with a dual nature who fiercely pushes forward toward the desire to escape the ruined peninsula, leaving a strong impression.

Koo Kyo-hwan gained attention at the 21st Busan International Film Festival in 2017 for his role as transgender Jane in Dream of Jane. He unleashes the skills he honed through short films such as Kim's Drift (2009), Our Grandson Best (2016), Today's Movie (2015), Seoul Romance (2014), and Meg (2019) in Peninsula with full force.

His appearance is striking from the start. The mysterious Captain Seo shines with a mystical face when meeting Koo Kyo-hwan. Koo Kyo-hwan portrayed the role with his own unique color. He skillfully embodied the fragile face of Captain Seo who has lost hope and collapsed, the calm observation of the situation, and the cold face ready to break through everything, completing a three-dimensional character. It is undoubtedly a face that stands out.

Captain Seo, who appears in the middle of the film, exudes a strong presence until the end and delivers an impressive performance. The actor’s inexplicable charm intensifies the mystery when combined with the isolated setting of the peninsula due to the zombie outbreak. Among characters who are strong, cold, courageous, fragile, and innocent, Captain Seo plays a role that cannot be defined by a single word.

Peninsula is expected to be a film that shines a spotlight on Koo Kyo-hwan. Although he has been recognized for his acting skills in the independent film scene and has also worked as a producer, this is his first appearance in a full-fledged commercial film, and he has fulfilled his role properly. Attention is focused on whether he will rise as a blue chip in Chungmuro, using Peninsula as a stepping stone.

Meanwhile, Peninsula will be released on July 15.
