Visit or Mail Submission to Baekho Literature Museum by September 11
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Naju City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Kang In-gyu) announced on the 9th that it will hold the "3rd Baekho Imje Literary Award Contest."
The Baekho Imje Literary Award is a contest to commemorate the literary world and the spirit of the times of Baekho Imje, a renowned mid-Joseon Dynasty writer, and to discover writers who have contributed to literary creation and development.
The contest is held biennially in the poetry and novel categories, and this year it is conducted for poetry works.
The awards are divided into two categories: the Grand Prize (prize money of 20 million KRW) and the Naju Literary Award (prize money of 5 million KRW).
The Grand Prize is limited to poetry collections published within the last two years, and works that have won other literary awards are excluded from the judging.
The Naju Literary Award is open to writers with ties to the region and has no restrictions on the type of work.
Eligibility requires meeting at least one of the following conditions as of the announcement date: currently residing for more than two years, having a residence history of more than ten years, being born in Naju, or having a registered domicile (bonjeok) in Naju.
Submissions are accepted only by visiting the Baekho Literature Museum or by mail until September 11.
The city plans to announce the winners of the Grand Prize and the Naju Literary Award (one winner each) and hold an awards ceremony in early November.
A city official said, "We hope to encounter excellent works by contemporary writers who carry on the spirit of Baekho Imje, who expressed the spirit of the times with sharp insight through his writings amid a turbulent history."
