Support for Renovation and Improvement Costs of Aging Houses... Designation of Housing Performance Improvement Support Zone in Jejidong 67-17 Area Excluded from Urban Regeneration New Deal Project
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol) is accelerating efforts to improve the poor residential environment of aging houses in the area by designating a Housing Performance Improvement Support Zone.
From March to June 2020, the district conducted a survey of residents’ opinions while carrying out a project to designate the area around 67-17 Jegi-dong as a Housing Performance Improvement Support Zone.
Subsequently, on July 6, the area around 67-17 Jegi-dong was officially designated as a Housing Performance Improvement Support Zone following approval by the Seoul Metropolitan Government Urban Regeneration Committee.
The newly designated Housing Performance Improvement Support Zone is the Jegi 7 redevelopment maintenance cancellation area. This area, where the residential environment and maintenance infrastructure are poor and aging houses are densely concentrated, was excluded from selection as an urban regeneration New Deal project area, making improvement of living conditions and maintenance urgent.
The district will improve the residential environment and urban aesthetics of the area by supporting repair costs for aging houses located within the designated zone that are over 20 years old from the date of use approval (excluding unauthorized or illegal buildings).
Once designated as a zone, residents can receive repair subsidies under the ‘Seoul Beautiful House Project’ (50-100% of construction costs depending on house type, up to a maximum of 20 million KRW). Benefits from the ‘Housing Improvement Loan Support Project’ are also available. Before designation, Seoul City subsidized 2% of the market interest rate on loans; after designation, low-interest loans at an annual rate of 0.7% are provided (up to 60 million KRW for detached houses, up to 100 million KRW for new constructions).
Residents wishing to apply for support under this project can submit the required documents to the Sustainable City Division of Dongdaemun-gu Office or apply through Seoul’s Jipsuri.com.
Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol of Dongdaemun-gu stated, “We will continue to carry out residential environment improvement projects to enhance the quality of life for our residents,” and added, “We hope for active participation from many residents.”
