[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Choi Hyun-joo] Changwon City in Gyeongnam announced on the 9th that it held the inauguration ceremony of the ‘Urban Policy Citizen Planning Group’ for establishing the 2040 Changwon Urban Master Plan and has begun full-scale activities.
The urban master plan is a comprehensive plan that presents the future vision of each city.
The 2040 Changwon Urban Master Plan to be implemented this year will allow citizens to participate and discuss the city’s long-term development direction, rather than being led solely by the local government as before.
From the 8th to the 26th of last month, the city publicly recruited 40 citizen representatives across five fields: urban and housing, economy and industry, culture and welfare, transportation and safety, and environment and parks.
Starting with the inauguration ceremony and orientation, a total of four sessions of heated discussions and diverse opinions will be held to discuss the future vision of Changwon.
Mayor Heo Seong-mu of Changwon said, “The Citizen Planning Group is the first step in people-centered, citizen-participatory urban planning in Changwon. It will be established together with citizens from the early stages of planning to contribute to creating a Changwon that citizens desire.” He added, “We will actively strive to reflect the opinions presented by the Citizen Planning Group in the urban master plan.”
