Expected Once More Between the 12th and 14th

Heavy Rain Forecast up to 150mm in Gwangju and Jeonnam Region until the 11th

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Heavy rain of up to 150mm is forecasted in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions.

According to the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration on the 9th, a stationary front is moving northward along with a low-pressure system approaching from southern China, and rain will begin to fall in Gwangju and Jeonnam from the afternoon.

This rain will start from the eastern southern coast of Jeonnam and expand to the entire region by early morning on the 10th.

Afterwards, as the low-pressure system moves to the East Sea and the stationary front moves southward, rain is expected to stop starting from the west coast at noon on the 10th and most areas will see the rain cease by 3 p.m. However, some areas in the northern part of Jeonnam may experience light rain until the 11th.

By the 11th, 50 to 150mm of rain is expected along the southern coast of Jeonnam, and 30 to 80mm in Gwangju and Jeonnam.

Especially from late afternoon on the 9th to early morning on the 10th, a large amount of moisture will be drawn in between the North Pacific High located east of Korea and the low-pressure system passing the southern coast, resulting in very heavy rain of about 30mm per hour along the southern coast of Jeonnam.

Strong winds are also expected. As the low-pressure system passes the southern coast and moves to the East Sea, strong winds of 36 to 60 km/h (10 to 16 m/s) and waves about 3 meters high will occur in the southeastern offshore waters of the South Sea on the 10th, and a storm warning is expected to be issued.

A Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration official said, “There will be places with very heavy rain concentrated in a short time accompanied by gusts of wind, thunder, and lightning,” and added, “Please prepare for damage to facilities such as farmland flooding, landslides, and flooding of low-lying areas and houses, and be especially cautious of safety accidents as valleys and rivers may suddenly flood.”

Meanwhile, the stationary front that moved southward to the southern sea of Jeju Island will move north again, and rain is expected again in Gwangju and Jeonnam from the afternoon of the 12th to the 14th.

In particular, from the afternoon of the 13th to the morning of the 14th, a low-pressure system developing on the stationary front is expected to move northward, bringing heavy rain.
