Pukyong National University to Hold National Assembly Forum on Establishing the College of Radiological Medicine


[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The project to establish a medical school at Pukyong National University is progressing steadily.


On the 9th, Pukyong National University announced that a forum for the establishment of a College of Radiological Medicine will be held at 2 p.m. on the 10th in Seminar Room 1 of the National Assembly Members' Office Building.


Hosted by Jeong Dong-man, a member of the Future United Party and National Assembly member for Busan Gijang-gun, and organized by Pukyong National University, this forum was arranged to urge the government to establish a College of Radiological Medicine aimed at building a cancer treatment hub linked to the 450,000-pyeong Southeast Radiation Medical and Science Complex in Jang-an-eup, Gijang-gun, and to establish a public medical base in the southeastern coastal region.


The Radiation Medical and Science Industrial Complex in Gijang-gun, Busan, is expected to become the largest in Northeast Asia and one of the world's top radiation technology science complexes, with a budget of 1.1 trillion won invested in five facilities, including a radiation heavy ion accelerator.


Assemblyman Jeong Dong-man recognized the importance of nurturing specialized personnel in radiation medicine and science who can achieve results by utilizing infrastructure equipped with advanced radiation technology, and thus organized the "Forum on the Promotion Plan for the Establishment of the National Pukyong University College of Radiological Medicine."


At the forum, the first presentation will be given by Choi Cheol-won, head of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Southeast Nuclear Medicine Institute, on the topic "Training Specialized Medical Personnel in Radiation Medicine and the College of Radiological Medicine." The second presentation will be by Professor Son Dong-woon of Pukyong National University's Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, on the topic "The Necessity of a College of Radiological Medicine within the Southeast Radiation Medical and Science Industrial Complex."


The chair of the forum will be Professor Jeong Hyeong-seon of Yonsei University's Department of Health Administration. Panelists will include Kim Hyun-sook, head of the Medical Resource Policy Division at the Ministry of Health and Welfare; Nam Jeong-eun, head of the Clean Energy Division of Busan City; Professor Chae Jong-seo of Sungkyunkwan University's Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering; and Shin Seong-sik, editorial writer and welfare specialist at JoongAng Ilbo. They will engage in in-depth discussions on the necessity of nurturing specialized personnel in radiation medical science.


Assemblyman Jeong Dong-man stated, "For the success of the Radiation Medical and Science Complex, it is essential to nurture medical and scientific talents who can achieve results by utilizing infrastructure equipped with advanced radiation technology," and emphasized, "The College of Radiological Medicine must be promptly established in Gijang-gun, Busan, where the Southeast Radiation Medical and Science Complex is being built."
