[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Kim Jong-in, Emergency Committee Chairman of the Future United Party, stated regarding the new party name that "it should include the meaning of all the people coming together." Within the United United Party, various methods to gather public opinion, such as the 'Mr. Trot' style, are being discussed.
At the emergency committee meeting held on the morning of the 9th, Chairman Kim said, "(The new party name) should include the meaning of all the people coming together," adding, "It also needs to convey the meaning of moving forward anew, not reminiscing about the past but advancing toward the future."
Kim Soo-min, the Future United Party's Public Relations Committee Chair, reported in this regard, "Unlike in the past, the party name revision should go through an innovative, open, and democratic process," and "The party name revision should be carried out with the concept of arousing public and media interest and forming a positive experience."
She continued, "We plan to promote it in a way that forms a consensus like a festival, rather than simply repeating past party name revision experiences," adding, "Several special committees are being formed and operated under the emergency committee, and if remarkable results come out from any of these special committees, they may be reflected in the party name." Also, the Policy Platform Special Committee plans to complete the policy platform revision process by the end of this month.
Primary election methods targeting the public, such as Mr. Trot, are also being mentioned. Bae Jun-young, spokesperson for the Future United Party, said at the National Assembly communication office on the same day, "There are various ways (for public participation), such as Mr. Trot," adding, "It will be operated as a grand festival that forms a national consensus and aligns with the purpose of 'walking with the weak' and expanding the scope."
He continued, "Looking at opinion polls, our party is in the process of forming a national consensus from being a party that was ignored," and said, "In the past, when the party name was solicited, it was done in a stereotypical way, so it was insufficient in forming a national consensus, but if our policy of walking with the weak becomes known to the public through incidents like the Choi Sook-hyun case and the Incheon International Airport Corporation case, the solicitation will go well."
Regarding Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl accepting the investigation directive from Justice Minister Chu Mi-ae, he said, "Both the Prosecutor General and the Minister of Justice were appointed by the president, but the president is taking a stance of ignoring the conflict between the prosecution and the Ministry of Justice," emphasizing, "The appointing president must resolve this issue."
