UNIST-LG Electronics Strengthen Cooperation... Mutual Growth


[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Junho] Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) and LG Electronics are strengthening their cooperation for mutual growth.


On the 9th at 2 p.m., UNIST and LG Electronics held a 'Industry-Academia Cooperation Agreement Signing Ceremony' at the LG Electronics Changwon Plant 1 R&D Center. This agreement is an extension of the 2015 agreement aimed at nurturing customized science and engineering talents.


In this agreement, in addition to the existing UNIST LG Track industry-academia scholarship program, an Industry-Academia Cooperation Committee will be formed to discover joint industry-academia projects and activate collaborative research.


Kwon Sun-yong, Director of the UNIST Industry-Academia Cooperation Group, stated, "Based on excellent research capabilities in various fields such as mechanical engineering, artificial intelligence (AI), power electronics, ergonomics, and design, we plan to conduct collaborative research with LG Electronics," adding, "We expect to produce world-class results."


Additionally, a program will be established to allow LG Electronics employees to pursue master's and doctoral degrees at UNIST. Selected employees from LG Electronics will be able to take various courses, including those at the UNIST AI Graduate School, which is preparing to open soon.


Lee Yong-hoon, President of UNIST, said, "We are pleased to establish a progressive cooperative relationship between the top company and university for the common goal of discovering future growth engines," and added, "Through continuous technology exchange and industry-academia cooperation, we hope to lead the world with innovative research and drive industrial change and the future."


Song Dae-hyun, Head of LG Electronics H&A Business Division, said, "We hope this agreement between LG Electronics and UNIST will serve as an opportunity to strengthen a future-oriented industry-academia cooperation system between local universities and companies," and added, "We look forward to creating synergy effects between companies and universities through exchanges in various fields."
