[Asia Economy Reporter Wondara] Kim Tae-nyeon, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, announced plans to prepare a comprehensive real estate policy including taxation, finance, and supply. Regarding the disposal of non-primary residences by lawmakers and high-ranking public officials, he raised the tone by saying, "We strongly recommend it."
At the policy coordination meeting held at the National Assembly on the morning of the 9th, Floor Leader Kim said, "The Democratic Party and the government bear great responsibility for the current real estate situation," adding, "The Democratic Party recognizes real estate issues as the most urgent problem and will devote all party capabilities to stabilizing real estate prices."
He continued, "The Democratic Party will take the lead in preparing a comprehensive real estate policy covering taxation, finance, and supply," emphasizing, "The Democratic Party's real estate measures are not one-time actions but will continue until apartment speculation is completely eradicated and the underprivileged without homes can own their own houses."
He said, "First, we will pass a bill in the July National Assembly session to significantly strengthen the comprehensive real estate tax on multi-homeowners," adding, "It is necessary for lawmakers and high-ranking public officials to set an example. We strongly recommend disposing of non-primary residences."
He also stated, "We will prepare supply measures and financial support policies so that genuine demanders can secure their own homes," and "Cooperation from local governments is essential for housing supply. We urge local governments to cooperate with the central government."
Regarding the 'Senior Representative Talks on North Korean Nuclear Issues' held the previous day, he said, "Stephen Biegun, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State and Special Representative for North Korea, expressed strong support for inter-Korean cooperation. We hope North Korea will also show a flexible attitude," adding, "We will definitely pass a bill banning the distribution of leaflets to North Korea in the July National Assembly session."
Cho Jeong-sik, chairman of the Democratic Party's Policy Committee, said, "There is a need to create a breakthrough in inter-Korean relations, such as inter-Korean health and medical cooperation projects," and "We can actively consider adjusting the schedule of the upcoming South Korea-U.S. joint military exercises planned for next month." He added, "The confirmation hearings for the Minister of Unification and the Director of the National Intelligence Service were submitted to the National Assembly yesterday," and "We ask the opposition party to proceed with the hearings as quickly as possible."
