[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Junho] Science playgrounds for children, the future science talents, will be established in five locations nationwide.
The Ministry of Science and ICT selected five local governments on the 9th to install play and experience-based science spaces exclusively for children, so that children can be close to science from an early age. The selected locations are Samcheok-si in Gangwon, Siheung-si in Gyeonggi, Jung-gu in Ulsan, Sunchang-gun in Jeonbuk, and Chungju-si in Chungbuk.
This project, starting for the first time this year, will have the Ministry of Science and ICT and the local governments jointly share the project cost of 1 billion KRW each. The total project cost for the five locations is 10 billion KRW. The executing agencies are the local governments, which will create the experience spaces by the end of next year and open them in early 2022.
The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to enhance accessibility and convenience by creating complex facilities linked to facilities frequently used by residents.
Kang Sangwook, Director of the Future Talent Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Science and ICT, said, "We will strive to steadily expand science experience spaces for children to nurture future science talents."
