[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kang Joo-hee] The number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection in Gwangju has exceeded 100 over the past 12 days since the 27th of last month.


According to Gwangju City, 3 confirmed cases occurred overnight on the 9th, bringing the total number of new patients in the Gwangju area for the day to 15.


In Gwangju, the second wave of COVID-19 began on June 27, centered around religious facilities, officetels, and nursing homes, with a total of 111 patients reported.


The cumulative number of confirmed cases in Gwangju reached 144 since the first patient was reported on February 3.


The infection routes of the 15 new confirmed cases were identified as 4 from Dong-gu Gwangju Goshi Academy, 2 from Buk-gu Ilgok Central Church, 2 from Buk-gu Hanul Nursing Home, and 2 from Gwangsan-gu SM Sauna.


The infection routes of the remaining 5 cases are reported to require further investigation. Some confirmed patients were found to have overlapping movement paths at Gwangju Goshi Academy and SM Sauna.


Among the additional confirmed cases is a 12-month-old infant, who is believed to have been infected by family members.


The son of patient number 129 in Gwangju also tested positive. Patient 129 is known to work in a building housing a call center.


The daily number of new confirmed cases since the 27th of last month has shown the following trend: '4 → 4 → 3 → 12 → 22 → 6 → 8 → 16 → 7 → 6 → 8 → 15.'
