[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Wonmi Library in Bucheon-si, Gyeonggi Province, will continue to provide Bookstart book packages to all newborns born in the region in the second half of this year.

Bookstart is a social childcare support movement that aims to "start life with books" by distributing picture books free of charge to infants and toddlers and helping them play with books. Bucheon City has been supporting newborns with Bookstart book packages through the Bookstart project since 2014.

The Bookstart book package to be provided this year includes two picture books for newborns: "Catch It, Catch It" by author Baek Juhee and "Better Together" by author Jeong Hoseon, along with a handkerchief, a Bookstart guidebook, all contained in an eco-bag.

The eligible applicants are all babies born last year and this year. In the first half of this year, 1,490 newborns received the Bookstart book packages.

The Bookstart book package can be received simultaneously when registering a birth at the administrative welfare center or community support center. If the book package was not received, it can be obtained by submitting family relation certificate documents and a library membership card at the municipal library or public small libraries.

If visiting is difficult, you can apply for delivery of the book package on the Bucheon City Library website. For more details, you can call the Wonmi Library Reading Promotion Team at 032-625-4737 for guidance.
