'Up to 12-month-old infants... COVID-19 permeates everywhere' 15 confirmed cases per day in Gwangju

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] In Gwangju, the COVID-19 virus shows no signs of being contained as even infants up to 12 months old have tested positive for the virus.


Moreover, multiple confirmed cases related to the T WORLD agency in Ochi-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju have raised concerns about a new cluster infection site.


According to Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 9th, 11 additional COVID-19 cases were confirmed, classified as Gwangju cases 134 to 144. Just the previous day, 15 cases were reported.


The infection routes are diverse. Four cases are related to Gwangju Gosi Academy, three to Ilgok Church, two to SM Sauna, two to Hanul Hospital, three to Ochi-dong T WORLD agency, and one is under investigation.


First, the confirmed cases linked to Gwangju Gosi Academy are case 130 (male in his 40s, Bongseon 2-dong, Nam-gu, Bongseon Jiwel Apartment), case 138 (male in his 50s, Dongnim-dong, Buk-gu, Samik Apartment), case 140 (female in her 40s, Unam-dong, Buk-gu), and case 144 (male in his 60s, Dongmyeong-dong, Dong-gu). All appear to have had contact with Gwangju case 117.


Two cases related to SM Sauna are case 134 (female in her 50s, Sinchang 5th Hoban Verdiium, Sinchang-dong, Gwangsan-gu) and case 135 (male teenager, Suwan 6th Daebang Noble Land, Suwan-dong, Gwangsan-gu). They are contacts of cases 120 and 129, respectively.


Three confirmed cases related to Ilgok Central Church have also been reported: case 133 (female in her 40s, Yongjeon-dong, Buk-gu), case 136 (female in her 40s, Geumho Eoullim, Yongbong-dong, Buk-gu), and case 139 (female in her 40s, Yongjeon-dong, Buk-gu).


Additionally, case 131 (female in her 50s, Ochi-dong, Buk-gu), a caregiver at Hanul Nursing Home, and case 132 (female in her 80s), a resident, as well as case 137 (male in his 50s, Unam-dong, Buk-gu), whose infection route is under investigation, have been confirmed.


The issue is that three more cases have been added at the Ochi-dong T WORLD agency, raising concerns about a new cluster infection site.


Cases 141 (male in his 40s, Ochi-dong, Buk-gu), 142 (female in her 20s, Ochi-dong, Buk-gu), and 143 (12-month-old male, Ochi-dong, Buk-gu) have tested positive. Case 136, classified as related to Ilgok Central Church, also has connections to this location.


The Ochi-dong T WORLD agency was visited by Gwangju cases 103 and 104. Currently, health authorities are focusing on notifying citizens through ‘safety text messages’ to identify contacts at this location.


Meanwhile, since the 27th of last month, a total of 111 COVID-19 cases have been reported in Gwangju.


By type, there are 7 cases related to Gwangnyeoksa Temple, 22 to Geumyang Officetel, 6 to Jeju travel, 2 to SKJ Hospital, 20 to Ilgok Central Church, 19 to Gwangju Sarang Church, 7 to Agape Silver Center, 9 to Hanul Nursing Hospital, 9 to Gosi Academy, 3 to SM Sauna, 3 imported cases, 3 to Ochi-dong T WORLD, and 2 under investigation.


By age group, there are 3 under 10 years old, 2 teenagers, 4 in their 20s, 8 in their 30s, 15 in their 40s, 28 in their 50s, 30 in their 60s, 14 in their 70s, 3 in their 80s, and 4 in their 90s.


From the 27th of last month to the current day (as of 9 a.m.), the daily case numbers have been 4→4→3→12→22→6→8→16→7→6→8→15.
