On the 11th at 10 AM, Appointment of Youth Council Members and Speeches, Q&A Sessions for Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson Candidates
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) will hold the "6th Dongjak-gu Youth Council Online Inauguration Ceremony" at 10 a.m. on the 11th at the district office to guarantee youth participation rights and support autonomous activities.
Started in 2015 and now in its 6th year, the Youth Council is a youth participation organization where youths residing in the region directly propose and deliberate youth policies. In February, 35 members of the 2020 Youth Council were selected through a public contest.
The inauguration ceremony will be attended by 35 members of the 6th Dongjak-gu Youth Council, the mayor, youth advisors, and others, and will include ▲appointment of youth council members ▲introduction of Youth Council activities ▲speeches and Q&A sessions by candidates for chairperson and vice-chairperson.
To prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the district will conduct the inauguration and related processes non-face-to-face using an online video conferencing application, and appointment certificates will be delivered individually to the youth council members.
In particular, the chairperson and vice-chairperson elections will be conducted through a mixed method of on-site walk-through voting on the day and voting by marking ballots sent by mail starting from the 13th, with voters sending certification photos online. The results will be announced via an online live broadcast on the 20th.
The appointed youth council members will be active in three standing committees until December: ▲Culture Standing Committee ▲Safety Standing Committee ▲Human Rights Standing Committee.
Additionally, until December, the district will conduct the "Excellent Career Experience Education," part of Dongjak Innovation Education, providing opportunities for career exploration to elementary and middle school youths in the region.
The education program will be operated as "Dong.Gu.Bakk Dream Travel," which matches and supports career experience activities linked with Hwaseong City and nearby Seoul areas, and "Our Neighborhood Dream Workshop," which offers on-site career experience opportunities to small local clubs.
Yoon So-yeon, Director of the Education Policy Division, said, "With the 6th Youth Council beginning full-scale activities, we will actively support youths to participate autonomously in the policy-making process for their own future."
The Dongjak-gu Youth Council was the first nationwide in 2017 to enact an ordinance directly related to the operation and composition of the Youth Council by youths themselves. Last year, it held the "Youth Autonomous Policy Market" for the first time, proposing various policies such as installing protective fences near schools and cleanliness signboards.
