[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) will operate a heatwave shelter safety accommodation from July 20 to August 31 as a countermeasure due to the reduction of indoor heatwave shelters caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
To this end, the district signed a business agreement with Stars Hotel, located in Doksan 1-dong, Geumcheon-gu, at the district office small conference room at 2 p.m. on July 8.
According to this agreement, Stars Hotel Doksan branch will provide safety accommodation to heatwave-vulnerable groups such as elderly living alone without air conditioning during heatwave warnings, and will also support transportation for convenience.
In addition to the safety accommodation, the district will open 10 community service centers as heatwave shelters and operate 12 outdoor heatwave shelters in parks, under bridges, and other locations to protect heatwave-vulnerable groups.
Mayor Yu Seong-hoon said, “We thank Stars Hotel for willingly cooperating for local residents during a time when the tourism industry is struggling due to COVID-19,” and added, “The district will also do its best to revitalize the local tourism industry.”
