[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] Kim Sang-jo, Chief of the Presidential Office for Policy, held a private dinner meeting on the 8th with representatives of the domestic information and communication technology (ICT) industry regarding President Moon Jae-in's Digital New Deal policy, urging them to contribute to the development of the digital media ecosystem.
That evening, Kim met with Park Jung-ho, CEO of SK Telecom, Koo Hyun-mo, CEO of KT, Ha Hyun-hoe, Vice Chairman of LG Uplus, Han Sung-sook, CEO of Naver, and Yeo Min-soo, CEO of Kakao, at a Chinese restaurant in Gwanghwamun, Seoul, and listened to the industry's voices over a two-and-a-half-hour meal.
After the meeting, Kim told reporters, "Since the Data 3 Act, we have operated various task forces (TFs), and regarding their conclusion, I had the thought that we should newly develop the digital media ecosystem to create new opportunities for young people in our society to take on challenges." He added, "I told the related companies to make the digital media ecosystem truly dynamic."
He continued, "We exchanged opinions on what the government should do, and there were parts to explain regarding the Digital New Deal the government is preparing, and I heard various opinions."
The government recently announced the Digital New Deal policy, which includes investing 2.7 trillion won this year to strengthen the data, network, and artificial intelligence ecosystem, foster the non-face-to-face industry, and digitalize social overhead capital. President Moon Jae-in plans to hold a national report meeting on the 13th to directly announce the comprehensive plan for the 'Korean New Deal.'
