Reelection of Jo Young-hoon, Four-Term Chairman of Seoul Jung-gu Council Jo Young-hoon, Chairman of Jung-gu Council

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] On the morning of the 8th, the Jung-gu Council of Seoul held a plenary session and re-elected Cho Young-hoon, a four-term chairman who served as the chairman in the first half, as the chairman for the second half of the 8th council.

In the chairman election, Chairman Cho Young-hoon and Councilor Lee Hye-young (both from the Democratic Party of Korea) ran, with Chairman Cho receiving 6 votes and Councilor Lee receiving 3 votes, resulting in Chairman Cho's re-election.

Additionally, Councilor Kim Haeng-seon was elected as vice chairman, and Councilor Lee Seung-yong (both from the Democratic Party of Korea) was elected as the chair of the steering committee.

Along with this, Councilor Park Young-han was elected as the chair of the Administrative and Health Committee, and Councilor Gil Ki-young (from the United Future Party) was elected as the chair of the Welfare and Construction Committee.

Notably, the Jung-gu Council attracted attention by allowing all nine councilors to serve as chairman, vice chairman, and standing committee chairs in both the first and second halves.

This is a unique arrangement among the 226 city, county, and district councils nationwide, making it a topic of interest.

In particular, Park Sung-joon, a member of the National Assembly from Seongdong-eul, Jung-gu, affiliated with the Democratic Party of Korea, requested party officials to remain neutral, and the councilors themselves exemplarily elected the chairman, vice chairman, and standing committee chairs through their own decision-making, demonstrating a high level of democratic awareness.

Chairman Cho said, "First, I would like to express my deep gratitude to my respected fellow councilors who trusted and entrusted me with the important role of chairman," adding, "I will continue to be a chairman who works well and takes responsibility, meeting your expectations to realize a Jung-gu Council that communicates through the eyes and hearts of the residents."

Meanwhile, it is known that Chairman Cho plans to run in the nationwide city, county, and district council chairman elections.
