Jeonnam Police Take Steps to Improve Location Accuracy of 'Children Protection Zones'

Reflected in All School Zone Navigations

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] The Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency announced on the 8th that it has collaborated with the Road Management Authority and nationwide navigation companies to reflect 1,056 school zones (children protection areas) in the Jeonnam region on navigation systems.

Although existing navigation systems provided guidance on school zones, each navigation company conducted its own investigation and reflected the information independently.

The problem was that newly designated or canceled school zones were not reflected, and there were discrepancies among companies, resulting in some inaccuracies.

This reflection plan is the first nationwide collaboration between a national agency and navigation companies to accurately inform the public of school zone locations. It was promoted after sufficient prior consultation with the Road Management Authority and nationwide navigation companies starting in February this year.

Additionally, to provide more accurate information on school zones, local governments provided designation status data, and the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency, as the authority responsible for facility installation, conducted a full survey of school zone location information to improve data accuracy.

This reflection is expected to help prevent child traffic accidents within school zones. In particular, it will be greatly helpful to drivers who have no connection or geographical familiarity with the school zones, such as tourists visiting Jeonnam.
