[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] The police have imposed a travel ban on a taxi driver suspected of blocking an ambulance, resulting in the death of an emergency patient.
According to the police on the 8th, the Gangdong Police Station in Seoul imposed a travel ban on former taxi driver Choi Mo (31) on the 5th.
Choi is under investigation for blocking the road for about 10 minutes demanding accident processing after a collision with an ambulance occurred near Godeok Station on Subway Line 5 in Gangdong-gu on the 8th of last month.
At the time, the ambulance was transporting a stage 4 lung cancer patient (79) who was experiencing breathing difficulties to the hospital. The patient was transferred to a 119 ambulance and arrived at the hospital but ultimately passed away.
It was confirmed that Choi had been working as a driver for a taxi company in Gangdong-gu for about three weeks at the time of the accident and resigned on the 22nd of last month.
The police have initially booked Choi on charges of obstruction of business and are investigating whether additional criminal charges such as "murder by implied intent," as mentioned in public petitions, can be applied.
