Resolution in the Name of the Future United Party Andong City Eupmyeondong Council Chairpersons
"Majority Party Members Colluding with Independents and Other Party Members... Cannot Overlook"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] As Andong City Council faces criticism for staging a 'melodrama' over the formation of the chairmanship and standing committees, the Andong City Eupmyeondong (township and neighborhood) operating committee members of the United Future Party have demanded the expulsion of the involved council members, drawing attention to the outcome.
On the 8th, the chairpersons of the United Future Party's Andong City Eupmyeondong Council adopted a resolution in the name of all operating committee members of the party council and delivered it to Kim Hyung-dong, the local party committee chairman and National Assembly member.
They stated, "We cannot possibly understand how members of the same party can collude with minority opposition or independent members or accept positions under conditions to elect a non-affiliated member as chairperson, despite the majority being from our party," adding, "This goes against the purpose of the political party."
They continued, "We cannot recognize such members as belonging to our party," and demanded, "Those members involved in such conduct related to the formation of the second half chairmanship of Andong City Council must be immediately expelled." They emphasized, "We will take united action until strong disciplinary measures are taken against these members."
Meanwhile, on the 1st, during the chairmanship election, and on the 6th, during the standing committee chair formation process, the United Future Party members of Andong City Council showed discord among themselves, resulting in the embarrassing incident of handing over the chairmanship and key standing committee positions to independent members.
Among the total 18 council members, 12 United Future Party members, who make up two-thirds, lost the chairmanship to independent member Kim Ho-seok after factional disputes, and in the standing committee chair election on the 6th, due to internal conflicts, they also handed over the operating committee chair and economic city committee chair positions to independent candidates. The Andong City Council is composed of 2 members from the Democratic Party of Korea, 12 from the United Future Party, and 4 independents.
