[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] ○…This year’s Ryder Cup, the intercontinental golf competition between the United States and Europe, is expected to be postponed by one year.
On the 8th (Korean time), the US ESPN reported, "Although the source wishes to remain anonymous, a responsible official hinted that the Ryder Cup will be held on the same dates and at the same venue next year." The event was scheduled to take place over three days starting September 25 at Whistling Straits Golf Course in Wisconsin, USA, but was hindered by the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). With the Ryder Cup postponed to next year, the Presidents Cup has also been delayed to 2022.
The Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup are held alternately every year. The PGA of America, which organizes the Ryder Cup, and the European Tour are expected to officially announce the postponement soon. Amid the ongoing COVID-19 situation, they have been deliberating between holding the event without spectators or postponing it by one year. Many players, including 'Number 1' Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland) and 'Major Hunter' Brooks Koepka (USA), opposed a spectator-less Ryder Cup.
