Daewoo Winia Group Seongnam R&D Center Selected as Site for Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 'Industrial Complex Imagination Hub'

Daewoo Winia Group Seongnam R&D Center Selected as Site for Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 'Industrial Complex Imagination Hub'

[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Daewoo Winia Group announced on the 8th that its Seongnam Research and Development (R&D) Center was recently selected as a target site for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s ‘Industrial Complex Imagination Hub (Activation Zone)’ project.

The Industrial Complex Imagination Hub is a complex development project aimed at enhancing various industrial and support functions to expand innovation bases within aging urban industrial complexes. It has been implemented since 2009 to revitalize industrial complexes and industrial areas that have been completed for more than 20 years. This selection was promoted as a follow-up measure to the ‘Industrial Complex Grand Renovation Plan’ announced last November.

The Industrial Complex Imagination Hub project began its public contest in February, with local governments and project implementers submitting business plans to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, which selected the sites through expert evaluation. Daewoo Winia Group explained that it has established plans to develop the R&D Center site in Seongnam City into industrial facilities supporting startup companies and support facilities for workers within the complex.

The Daewoo Winia Group R&D Center site is expected to be regenerated into a new industrial complex combining creativity and innovation through the Industrial Complex Imagination Hub project. While maintaining the existing R&D and design centers, the group will provide surplus space and land created through remodeling to support the relocation of local startup companies and joint research facilities. In cooperation with Seongnam City, support facilities such as housing, childcare, cultural welfare, and convenience facilities will also be developed.

A Daewoo Winia Group official said, “We had plans to develop the Seongnam site into a hub facility that can grow together with the local community, and we were able to realize this by meeting the government’s tailored project,” adding, “As a brand closely connected to consumers, we will strive to become a group that develops together with the region and its citizens.”
