[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] The 2021 academic year early admission university information fair, which was scheduled to be attended by 149 universities nationwide, has been canceled.
The Korea Council for University Education announced on the 8th that the university admission information fair, which was scheduled to be held from the 23rd to the 26th at COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul, has been canceled.
The Council had planned to hold the fair as usual to provide various university admission information amid changes in high school academic schedules and increased burdens on examinees preparing for university entrance due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, due to the recent nationwide spread of COVID-19, concerns about large-scale gatherings were raised.
After meetings with quarantine authorities and related organizations, the event was ultimately canceled. Kim Minsu, head of the fair preparation committee and Director of Admissions at Catholic Kwandong University, said, "We plan to soon discuss follow-up measures including countermeasures for providing information due to the cancellation of the fair," and added, "We ask for the cooperation of related organizations such as the Ministry of Education."
