[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] A U.S. congressional member mentioned that the United States has officially notified its withdrawal from the World Health Organization (WHO).

Democratic Senator Bob Menendez (New Jersey) stated on his Twitter on the 7th (local time), "The U.S. government has reported to Congress that it has notified the WHO of its withdrawal."

President Donald Trump had expressed his intention to terminate relations with the WHO on May 29, blaming the WHO for the COVID-19 pandemic, but there had been no concrete progress until now.

In this regard, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, "The United States has been a long-time friend of the WHO, and we hope it will continue to be so."

Congress received notification that POTUS officially withdrew the U.S. from the @WHO in the midst of a pandemic.
