[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Min Jun-young] On the 7th (local time), the Iranian Ministry of Health reported that the number of deaths from the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) increased by 200 from the previous day, reaching 11,931.


This is the first time since the first COVID-19 death occurred in Iran on February 19 that the daily death toll has reached 200.


The previous highest daily death toll in Iran was 163 on July 5.


The daily COVID-19 death toll in Iran rose to over 150 at the end of March to early April, then fell to below 50 by mid-May.


However, the daily death toll has continued to increase since then, surpassing 100 again in mid-June.


Meanwhile, as of this date, the number of confirmed cases in Iran increased by 2,637 from the previous day, totaling 245,688.


The daily confirmed cases in Iran have remained around 2,500 over the past month, and the cumulative number of recovered patients is 207,000, with a recovery rate of 84.3%.


The Iranian health authorities have designated 9 out of 31 provinces nationwide as "red zones," indicating high risk, and classified 10 provinces, including the capital Tehran province, as "red risk areas."


Additionally, from the 5th to the 21st, mask-wearing is mandatory when going out and in indoor public places.
