[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Choi Hyun-joo] Changwon National University in Gyeongnam announced on the 7th that it has been selected for the 'National Research Lab (N-LAB)' organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT.
The Ministry of Science and ICT resolved the designation plan for the 2nd phase National Research Lab (N-LAB) at the Technology Special Committee on the 2nd, targeting key national research institutes and university laboratories in Korea to enhance the technology of materials, parts, and equipment and strengthen national self-reliance capabilities through the localization of core and original technologies.
The National Research Lab will serve as a hub for technological independence in the 'materials, parts, and equipment' sector by providing continuous support and mid- to long-term sustained research related to core items in the 'materials, parts, and equipment' field.
The Ministry of Science and ICT selected 12 laboratories in the 1st phase and 13 laboratories in the 2nd phase as National Research Labs, designating a total of 25 National Research Labs across various fields, targeting national research institutes and universities located in Korea.
Among them, five universities nationwide, including Changwon National University, were selected as university National Research Labs, and the Functional Nanostructured Materials Laboratory of the Department of New Materials Engineering at Changwon National University achieved the distinction of being selected as a 'National Research Lab (N-LAB)'.
In particular, Changwon National University is evaluated to have been selected for this National Research Lab due to its excellent research achievements in patents and papers, as well as the production of specialized research personnel in the 'materials, parts, and equipment' field.
Professor Jeong Yeon-gil of the Department of New Materials Engineering at Changwon National University stated, "Using this designation as a stepping stone, we will enhance national competitiveness by realizing the localization of core and original technologies in the high-temperature component materials field, a technology area led by advanced countries."
