[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Im Taek) announced on the 7th that all public officials and local self-governing organizations have joined forces to carry out a comprehensive disinfection campaign to prevent the spread of community infections and alleviate residents' anxiety.
Dong-gu conducted a city-wide disinfection campaign in response to the rapid recent spread of community infections, with concerns over second and third wave transmissions increasing, leading to an upgraded quarantine response system.
Dong-gu has designated the period until the 10th as an intensive disinfection period and plans to conduct daily disinfection at approximately 850 multi-use facilities across all 13 neighborhoods, including traditional markets, religious facilities, social welfare facilities, transportation facilities, and underground facilities.
In particular, on the 7th, Mayor Im Taek and all public officials divided by department focused their disinfection activities at three traditional markets within the district: Namgwangju Market, Daein Market, and Sansu Market.
In all 13 neighborhoods, about 830 residents, including community leaders such as neighborhood association heads, residents' autonomy committees, autonomous disaster prevention teams, and volunteers, conducted comprehensive disinfection of multi-use facilities such as shops, welfare facilities, and religious facilities.
Mayor Im Taek of Dong-gu said, "Since the 27th of last month, confirmed cases in the community have surged, increasing residents' anxiety. We will continue disinfection activities targeting multi-use facilities such as traditional markets and dining areas, and focus all administrative efforts on establishing a flawless disinfection network to prevent further spread of community infections."
