Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education Conducts On-site Inspection for 'School Sports Club Violence Prevention' Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education announced on the 7th that it will conduct on-site inspections of schools operating sports clubs in Jeonnam Province from June 30 to August 30.

This inspection is being carried out to prevent the recurrence of tragedies like the late triathlete Choi Sook-hyun and to protect student-athletes from violence by coaches and to safeguard their human rights.

Through the on-site inspections, the Office of Education will check whether student-athlete (sexual) violence and human rights education have been implemented, assess the training environment conditions for student-athletes, and evaluate dormitory living conditions. They will also conduct interviews with coaches to prevent (verbal) violence against student-athletes.

Additionally, as part of measures to prevent violence against student-athletes by coaches and to protect athletes' human rights, a regional coach training session will be held at the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education Sports Education Center starting on the 27th for 228 school sports club coaches.

Previously, the Office of Education had gradually abolished dormitories for school sports clubs in Jeonnam Province, and for the five schools currently operating dormitories, an administrative order was issued to completely close them by Thursday, July 30.

Kim Seon-chi, Director of the Department of Physical Education, Health, and Arts, stated, “We will strictly handle any cases of violence against student-athletes by school sports club coaches and will not consider any petitions or opinions that could mitigate disciplinary actions.”
