Selected for Ministry of Education Public Project... Opened in March 2022
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 7th that it has been finally selected for the Ministry of Education's 'School Media Education Center Contest Project' and will receive a special grant of 3.5 billion KRW from the Ministry of Education.
The School Media Education Center Contest Project has been conducted since May, targeting metropolitan and provincial offices of education nationwide through document screening and presentation evaluations. On the 6th, the Ministry of Education announced the final selection of three offices of education, including Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education, Gyeonggi, and Chungbuk.
Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education plans to operate a distinctive media education center focused on 'media education based on artistic creative activities' in connection with the (tentatively named) Arts Convergence Creative Support Center, which is being established using the site of the former Seojin Middle School with its own budget of 6.7 billion KRW.
The Daegu School Media Education Center will be constructed on the site of the closed Seojin Middle School (22, Seodaegu-ro 45-gil, Seo-gu) with a total project cost of 10.2 billion KRW (6.7 billion KRW from its own budget and 3.5 billion KRW from the special grant). Construction began in early 2021 and is expected to be completed by the end of October. The official opening date is scheduled for March 2022.
The Daegu School Media Education Center will be uniquely designed on each floor with spaces such as the Performance Zone, an always-open area; the Maker Zone, a convergence space for media and maker education; the Media Zone, a universal media education space; and the Art Zone, a convergence space for media and arts.
Kang Eun-hee, Superintendent of Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education, welcomed the selection by saying, "As a media education hub in the region and a stepping stone for our students to grow into critical and rational democratic citizens, we will do our utmost to ensure the successful opening of the Daegu School Media Education Center."
