Seeking Opinions on Network Neutrality Policy Directions in the 5G Era

[Asia Economy Reporter Seolgina Jo] The government will gather opinions from outside the currently operating research team regarding the direction of net neutrality policy.

The Ministry of Science and ICT announced that it will conduct policy consultations for one month starting from the 7th with experts and stakeholders on the key issues related to net neutrality policy. Although the Ministry of Science and ICT formed a research team and held six meetings, it judged that it is necessary to collect diverse external opinions and thus decided to proceed with policy consultations.

This consultation includes questions about the progress of net neutrality policy, overseas trends in net neutrality, introduction to 5G mobile communication technology, and key discussion points. Opinions will be sought from ICT-related organizations, media institutions, civic groups, and the Ministry of Science and ICT’s policy advisory group, while also collecting opinions from the general public through the Ministry of Science and ICT’s website.

Professor Seongyeop Lee, chair of the net neutrality research team, stated, “Based on the discussions of the research team and the opinions gathered from this policy consultation, we will propose improvement measures to the government that harmonize technological development and net neutrality policy.”
