[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] If a teacher, student, or school staff member is hospitalized due to an accident during educational activities, they will no longer have to bear additional costs even if treated in a hospital room with 4 to 5 beds or fewer.

The Ministry of Education announced on the 7th that the amendment to the "Enforcement Decree of the Act on the Prevention and Compensation of School Safety Accidents," which includes this content, was reviewed and approved at the Cabinet meeting.

Specifically, the enforcement decree of the School Safety Act was partially amended to lower the standard for higher-grade hospital rooms from 5 beds or fewer to 3 beds or fewer. Additionally, the criteria for disability grading by body parts such as spine and scars were detailed to ensure appropriate compensation.

Furthermore, it was decided that when multicultural students return to Korea and enroll or transfer into middle school, the assignment will be made by the education superintendent rather than the school principal. This was deliberated at the 18th Multicultural Family Policy Committee chaired by Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun. However, for designated school districts (Jung-hak-gu) where students must apply directly to a specific middle school due to commuting distance or other conditions, the process remains unchanged.

In addition, the number of members in the academic review committee, which evaluates the academic records of multicultural students, North Korean defector students, and others, will be increased from 7 to 30 to further activate the committee. These regulations will take effect from the 14th, and changes to the admission procedures will be implemented from the 15th of next month.
