[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Fire Lieutenant Heo Nam-gil, Fire Lieutenant Lee Dong-hoon, Fire Sergeant Yoon Sung-hyun of Gwangju Fire Station under Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters, and Fire Sergeant Lee Sang-soo of Bucheon Fire Station received the Fire Commissioner’s Commendation.
On the 7th, the Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters announced that four firefighters from Gyeonggi-do who saved lives at accident scenes on their days off and revived cardiac arrest patients through cardiopulmonary resuscitation received the Fire Commissioner’s Commendation.
According to the Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters, Heo Nam-gil, the on-site response team leader of Gwangju Fire Station, Fire Lieutenant Lee Dong-hoon, and Fire Sergeant Yoon Sung-hyun witnessed a traffic accident on May 27th while returning home after night duty, where a vehicle ahead collided with a utility pole. They immediately got out of their vehicle and safely rescued an elderly person trapped in the driver’s seat.
At the time of the accident, the utility pole had fallen due to the impact, and without prompt action, a secondary accident could have occurred through the high-voltage wires.
Fire Sergeant Lee Sang-soo of Bucheon Fire Station discovered a patient in cardiac arrest while visiting a hospital for his child’s medical treatment after work in January and saved the patient’s life through cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
The Fire Agency awarded the Fire Commissioner’s Commendation to these four Gyeonggi firefighters as well as 24 other firefighters nationwide who demonstrated outstanding performance in field activities.
Since September last year, the Fire Agency has been awarding commendations to firefighters who contributed to life-saving and other activities during their days off.
