[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Ki-woon] Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Park Woo-ryang) announced on the 7th that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Jungseop Workshop (CEO Lee Mi-kyung) on the 2nd to establish and operate the ‘Pilgrim’s Island Workshop Studio’ for the production and supply of crafts themed on the small chapel of Pilgrim’s Island.

With this, Gijeom and Soakdo, developed as Pilgrim’s Island by Sinan-gun since 2017, have established a system for producing, supplying, and selling souvenirs on site while functioning as visitor rest areas, thereby securing a space for sharing and contemplation where tourists can experience the pilgrimage route and create memories rather than just passing by.

CEO Lee Mi-kyung is the first artist to relocate to Gijeom and Soakdo of Sinan-gun’s Pilgrim’s Island. She has operated Jungseop Workshop for over 10 years on Lee Jung-seop Street in Seogwipo-si, Jeju, producing and selling crafts inspired by Western painter Lee Jung-seop’s works, and communicating with travelers as an artist.

Sinan-gun renovated the old Jeungdo Elementary School Daegijeom Branch to create a workshop and rest area where travelers can experience making crafts and communicate, and plans to develop it as a ‘Soul Resting Place’ that provides comfort to the weary lives of modern people along the 12 km extension of the Miracle Pilgrimage Trail.

Park Woo-ryang, Governor of Sinan-gun, said, “Through the 1 Island 1 Museum project, we will develop various programs that communicate with visitors, including culture, art, rest, and healing, to cultivate the small island into a place that people want to visit, want to visit again, and must visit.”
