Fire Agency Establishes Dedicated Team to Preempt Fire Risks Through Big Data Analysis

Fire Agency Establishes Dedicated Team to Preempt Fire Risks Through Big Data Analysis

[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the National Fire Agency announced on the 7th that they will establish a Fire Analysis System Division within the National Fire Agency and reinforce personnel to promote systematic fire prevention policies based on big data analysis related to firefighting.

The newly established Fire Analysis System Division will be responsible for ▲ analyzing and managing big data related to firefighting ▲ operating fire safety standards ▲ overseeing laws and systems related to firefighting facilities ▲ managing fire safety operations in public institutions. In particular, it plans to analyze the accumulated big data related to firefighting and reflect the results in the establishment of fire prevention policies, as well as provide real-time support for on-site firefighting activities such as fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical services.

Through this, it is expected that the capabilities for fire prevention and on-site response will be significantly strengthened by diagnosing fire risk levels and establishing safety standards.

According to the National Fire Agency, during major disasters such as the Jecheon fire in 2017 and the Miryang fire in 2018, there were difficulties in on-site response due to the lack of smooth analysis and provision of firefighting-related information such as building structure, evacuation plans, and hazardous materials status of fire targets. Therefore, there was a need to proactively analyze information on fire targets and user characteristics in advance and reflect them in fire prevention policies.

Minister of the Interior and Safety Jin Young urged, "Strengthen the scientific disaster response system using big data analysis technology as a control tower for fire prevention that protects the safety of the public and firefighters." National Fire Agency Commissioner Jeong Moon-ho said, "We have been continuously preparing improvement measures after past major disasters," and added, "Through the establishment of this new division, we will prepare advanced prevention policies in the rapidly changing disaster environment."
