Musical 'Jesus Christ Superstar' Returns to Korea After 6 Years

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] The musical 'Jesus Christ Superstar' is returning to domestic audiences after six years.

The production company Blue Stage announced on the 6th that 'Jesus Christ Superstar' will open next May at the BBCH Hall of the Kwanglim Art Center to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its Broadway premiere. Additionally, they revealed that auditions to select the main roles for the 2024 'Jesus Christ Superstar' performance will be held on the 27th of this month.

The musical 'Jesus Christ Superstar' is a groundbreaking work that views the last seven days of Jesus from Judas's perspective, combining rock music and classical elements to astonish audiences worldwide. It was created in the youth of composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, known for numerous masterpieces such as 'The Phantom of the Opera,' 'Cats,' 'Evita,' and 'School of Rock,' and lyricist Tim Rice, who contributed to 'The Lion King,' 'Beauty and the Beast,' and 'Aida.' The musical premiered on Broadway in 1971.

The production company stated that to minimize the number of in-person auditions amid COVID-19, they will first conduct video auditions, followed by on-site auditions where skilled veteran and new actors will be cast in key roles including Jesus, Judas, Maria, and Simon.

The audition application period is open until the 20th, and detailed information can be found on Blue Stage's official SNS accounts.
